Whitworth, founded in 1890, is among a select group of educational institutions known for both academic rigor and Christian commitment. The Whitworth faculty is committed to encouraging open intellectual inquiry as well as respect for diverse points of view. Located just 7 miles north of downtown Spokane, the 220 acre Whitworth campus is located in a scenic and wooded (mostly towering Ponderosa Pines) residential area. Spokane, a metropolitan area of approximately 425,000 is surrounded by extraordinary recreational opportunities including national forests, ski resorts, 75 lakes, and 25 golf courses. The city is the commercial and cultural center for more than a million people in the Inland Northwest.
